Welcome!

Hello and welcome!

The purpose of this blog is to enable communication between learners and instructor (and among learners as well) for the PGCTE Literature course.  So do drop in with comments, queries, insights, suggestions, etc.

To set the ball rolling, here's a query from a PGCTE participant, which I've answered via e-mail. I'm posting it here for the benefit of others who may have had the same 'confusion'.

The query:

In my sent PGCTE material, I have received a play "Death of A Salesman". MY confusion is this, I haven't found any question concerning this play in my assignments, although I have sent total 20 assignments so far.
I request you, let me know if this material is for "Reading Purpose Only" or I am supposed to do something else with this.I would appreciate your early reply! Thanks a million for you consideration!

My response:

No, the assignment on drama in the PGCTE literature course does not include a question on the play Death of a Salesman. The reason for this is that, if you've noticed, the course material on interpreting drama is structured around the play. That is, the block 'Interpretation of Drama' is based on a detailed analysis of the play and that is why you have been provided copies of the play. If the assignment is also based on the play, then we would receive reproductions of the course material as answers! That is why we test the concepts taught in this block through extracts from other plays. So please don't worry about not having got a question on this play. You are expected to read the play in order to understand the course material. (And in the final exam, you might get a question on the play!)

I hope I have answered your query.

  1. It is really what I have really been looking for.A place that brings all the participants and our teachers together. As it was mentioned in the very introduction of the course material, we are unable to get to know how far our fellow participants made the progress. However, now we could at least get to know who we all are.I am afraid I cannot participate this years contact programme for I couldn't complete my assignment.

  2. Dear Dr. Lavanya ,

How many questions do we need to attempt from “Death of a Salesman” for End of Course Examination? Kindly give details- duration of the exam, what question types (short, essay, annotation, etc.), how many words are required , etc.

I visited PGCTE Website but it is not updated/working.
[And finally, you can also look at and try out the model question papers put up at the PGCTE website:
    http://sites.google.com/site/eflupgcte/model-question-papers
You can view the Model Question papers for the six subjects for which there are End of term exams by clicking on them. You can also download them by clicking on the DOWNLOAD ARROW symbol]

    Thank and regards.

  5. Hello Sir, first of all thanks to you all for having such platform where we can discuss our problems while completing PGCTE assignment. I have stuck on the very first assignment where after finishing Block I the question difference between cognitive approach and structural approach was asked. I am totally lost what to do and how to do.
    Throw some light. Thanking you.
